Living with the diagnosis of Crohn’s Disease can feel sometime’s like you’re living in a box.

It can feel like there’s restrictions everywhere:

1) what foods you can and can’t eat,

2) what activities you have or don’t have the energy for,

and 3) where you can and can’t go based on washroom accessibility.

Sometime’s the thoughts around Crohn’s can feel overwhelming and that your life is closing in on you.

You look on Facebook and Instagram and see all of the things your contacts are doing and you feel like somehow you missed out. It’s not fair. You want to do all of those things too!

Be Inspired: Meet Peter Hannay

  1. Raise awareness of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
  2. Spotlight international Leaders Living Well with Crohn’s and colitis: share their story, their top tips for others with IBD, and offer a way to connect and follow them (as a virtual ‘mentor’ and inspirator).
  3. Provide a dose of positivity, “light” and inspiration to the often very negative, difficult, emotional and life-changing events that someone with IBD experiences.

How to survive a bad Crohn’s flare-up and hospital visit

I was 16 years old, went through months of flaring, was severely dehydrated, anemic, in so much abdominal and rectal pain, and emaciated to bones from all the 15-to-20-times-per-day bloody, liquid-diarrhea. I was on a steady decline. My parents gave up taking me to the local hospital because we didn’t get any answers there. They rushed me to the big hospital in the city ‘Sick Kids Hospital’ in Toronto and my dad said: “we need answers now!”
